Accessibility
HOME Manchester is committed to making their building as accessible as possible. If you have any questions or specific requirements ahead of your visit, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
- The building has three floors, all fully accessible via two lifts located in the main foyer, just to the right of the entrance. Our event will take place in the Cinema on Floor 3.
- All public spaces, including the Gallery and Cinemas, are wheelchair accessible.
- Stairs are available between every floor for those who prefer them.
- There are two accessible toilets on every floor (six in total). Each floor also has single-sex toilets, and on the ground floor there are two sets of all-gender toilets: one with urinals and cubicles, and one with only cubicles.

Interesting facts
- HOME was created from the merger of two cherished Manchester institutions: Cornerhouse (a hub for independent film and contemporary art) and the Library Theatre Company. This blend means HOME carries forward a rich heritage while offering a broader, state-of-the-art space for arts and culture.
- Opened in May 2015 and designed by Dutch architects Mecanoo, the building features a striking triangular shape with rounded corners, a glazed facade with irregular metallic fins, and a design that opens out wherever public spaces are located. It has become a visual landmark in Manchester’s developing First Street area.
- Inside HOME there are two theatres, five cinema screens, and around 500m² gallery space with high ceilings. On top of that, there are spaces for education, digital production, a restaurant, café-bar, and social / event spaces.
- HOME isn’t just about presenting work; it actively engages with local artists and communities. For example, the “HOME from HOME” programme works across various areas of Greater Manchester to bring creative opportunities into different neighbourhoods. There’s also an expanded gallery programme that includes community exhibition spaces.
- HOME has set concrete goals around reducing its carbon emissions, and it operates as a charity with the aim of delivering cultural and social benefit to its community. It’s also part of Manchester’s wider mission for a creative quarter, connecting public spaces, art, performance and innovation.
